Who’s behind it all?

Y-Binh Nguyen is the co-founder of What’s Good in the Hood, and she is a junior a Noble and Greenough School. She just finished a semester at The School for Ethics and Global Leadership. In early 2013, she joined the Student Immigration Movement: Lawrence Chapter in order to ensure that people are given the same opportunities she has. She hopes to encourage students to take every opportunity available to them, using WGITH as one of those platforms

Monineath Khun: is student at Math, Science & Technology High School. She’s interested in engineering, and is finding her way to get to know more about it. She plays soccer and tennis for he Lawrence High School team and is involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council and with her spare time, she volunteered in various places in Lawrence. As resident in Lawrence community, she is now a member/treasurer of “What’s Good in the Hood” because she wants to see her community thrive.

Rayza Carrasco serves as the Media and Event Coordinator for the group. She is currently in her third year of high school, attending Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School. Not only is she an exceptional student but she also holds an IT assistant position in her school and is the Head Coordinator for her Junior yearbook section. Part time Fashionista, Rayza has been honored to work with companies like FOB Apparel and Karmaloop. She aspires to attain anything that her heart desires. She also has a passion for all mediums of arts and has currently launched her photography line “coughSyrup”.  She’s extremely fortuient to work with organizations like YDO and Youth Cities and is a member of Movement City and the local YMCA. She sees WGITH as an other great opportunity to give back to her hometown and wishes to bask in the unknown virtues that Lawrence has to offer. She plans to attend SCAD or Umas Lowell and live life in the “Big City”.

Nalyn Yim  Is currently as senior at the Math, Science and Technology High School on the Lawrence High Campus. Always searching for new ways to get involved, Nalyn partakes in a variety of activities and organizations within her community. She associates strongly with the Youth Development Organization, fights alongside the Student Immigrant Movement, fiddles with computers at Movement City, and dances whenever she has a moment to spare. With college approaching, Nalyn hopes to go off and study Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in order to purse a career in medicine.

Zachary Marshall is a junior at the Math, Science and Technology High School on the Lawrence High Campus. He is part of the new team of What’s Good in the Hood and has completed two issues in his time at the organization so far. Inside of school, Zachary is involved in the Mock Trial team and is preparing for the M^3 Math Challenge along with other students in his school. In his academic day he enjoys going to his three rigorous advanced placement classes and challenging himself every day. In his free time he enjoys having long conversations with his friends, enjoying family time, and cooking.

Jonathan S. Guzman is the Assistant Media Coordinator of What’s Good in The Hood. He is currently attending the Math, Science & Technology High School. He came to the United States three year ago as a newcomer to the country with no English roots. During these two years he been involved in programs such as Upward Bound, Stand and Deliver, and GEAR UP. Clubs are also a big part of his life. He been involved in the Outdoor Club, Lawrencians Paper Club, Culture Awareness Club, Animal Club, and Creating Websites for non-profit organizations and stores around Lawrence, MA. He participated in the Leadership Conference in Vermont, Trio Day in Connecticut and 1Race in Massachusetts. He was awarded for being on Honor Roll and High Honor Roll in his classes. He is just a high student with the dream of becoming a Veterinarian. He had the privilege of shadowing Dr.Kane at the Methuen Veterinary Hospital and Dr.O’Dell at the Johnson Veterinary Hospital this past years. He also love painting, dancing, volleyball, technology ,skiing, camping, hiking, exploring , getting involved and volunteering. MSPCA, Cor Unum, Spicket River Clean Up, Bone Marrow Drives, Walk for Animals are some of the places that he dedicates his free time to. He see WGITH as a way to give back to the city that have given us Lawrencians the potential to go forward and become a better people.

Past Members:

Aguedo Delos Santos is a student at the Math Science and Technology High school at LHS. Aguedo is a senior who enjoys technology and the study of various sciences. Aguedo aspires to be a part of the LHS varsity track team and helps others with various problems when it is needed. He aspires to become a software engineer, but is also interested in Biochemistry. Aguedo hopes that his editorial skills can provide WGITH with the highest quality of grammar and rhetorical meaning.

Jerisson DeLaCruz is a senior at the Math, Science, and Technology academy at Lawrence High School. Jerisson is interested in the field of technology and video game development. He enjoys helping others in his community, online and in real life, and works to use his skills for the people. Jerisson aspires to become a professional game developer and currently uses his programming and graphic design skills in What’s Good in the Hood to show how good of a city Lawrence is.

Dararithy Pen is the Head Distributor of WGITH and a student at Math Science and Technology High School at LHS. Dararithy, also known as Tony, spends most of his time exploring Lawrence. He is still unsure of what road he wishes to pursue, but is interested in political science. He believes in helping others and is friendly to those around him. By being a part of What’s Good In The Hood he hopes to change the view of Lawrence and show the beauty it poses.

Roberta Delilo the photographer for What’s Good in the Hood, is a senior at the Performing and Fine Arts Academy at Lawrence High School. Roberta wants to become a professional photographer someday, and also be involved in shaping our society through photography itself. She hopes to show everyone that there’s more to Lawrence through her lens. In future, she wants to work alongside other artists to help local kids achieve their dreams in the arts. She is excited about being a part of the WGITH team and sees it as an opportunity to show others how amazing Lawrence is.

Gladys Gitau the editor-in-chief and co-founder of WGITH, is an ambitious senior at the Math, Science and Technology Academy at Lawrence High. Aside from the paper, Gladys is very involved in her school as part of student government, the anti bullying campaign, National Honor Society, and the tennis team. Outside of school she volunteers her time at church. She enjoys English and history, and she looks forward to studying journalism, communications, or business in college. Until then, she wants to encourage her peers to be an active part of her Lawrence community, using What’s Good in the Hood as a platform.
